Boerboel Puppies for Sale in Texas: Travel, Heat and Texas Dog Laws

Cold River Boerboels is a performance-focused Boerboel breeder based in the northeastern United States. We don't have a location in Texas, but we work with Texas families who want a well-raised Boerboel puppy from proven performance lines. This page covers what is specific to Texas: how your puppy gets home, what to plan for in your climate and what state law says. Getting Your Boerboel Puppy Home to Texas
Texas is a long way from the northeastern United States, and the state itself is huge. Some Texas families make a road trip of pickup, which usually means two days or more of driving each way. Others choose private ground transportation, or a flight nanny who flies with the puppy in the cabin. We talk through the options based on your part of Texas, the puppy's age and the time of year.
Raising a Boerboel in Texas
Heat is the biggest thing to plan around. The AKC lists puppies among the dogs that face increased heatstroke risk, notes that heatstroke can set in once a dog's internal temperature passes 105.8°F, and warns never to leave a dog in a parked car, "even for a short time." For a big, muscular puppy in Texas, that means training and exercise in the early morning or evening, shade and fresh water in the yard, and a cool indoor spot to rest. We also keep our puppies lean while they grow, and our guide to growing pains in Boerboels explains why that matters for a giant breed. If you are on acreage, remember that the Boerboel was developed as a farm guardian in South Africa. Good fencing and early, structured socialization matter more than square footage.
Texas Dog Laws and the Boerboel
Texas keeps local dangerous-dog rules breed-neutral. Under Texas Health and Safety Code §822.047, a county or city may add requirements for dangerous dogs only if those requirements "are not specific to one breed or several breeds of dogs." Private rules are a different story. Landlords, HOAs and homeowners insurance companies can set their own breed or size limits, so check your lease, covenants and policy before your puppy comes home.
Laws change, and this is general information, not legal advice. Our Boerboel ownership costs and laws FAQ covers insurance and housing questions in more detail.
What Comes With Every Cold River Puppy
Every Cold River puppy goes through Cold River HomeStart™, our early foundation program: crate and leash introduction, handling, household routines and socialization with people and animals. Puppies go home with a 16-month health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Families who want more structured training before go-home can add the optional Cold River StrongStart™ program.
Performance is how we measure the breed. Cold River's Sun Wukong and Cold River's Mr. Wednesday have each pulled 22,039 lb in UPF competition. The results and sources are on our world record page.

Boerboel Puppies in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a Cold River Boerboel puppy if I live in Texas?
Yes. We are based in the northeastern United States and work with families across the country, including Texas. Reach out about current availability, and we will talk through pickup, ground transportation or a flight nanny.
Is Texas too hot for a Boerboel?
No, but you have to plan for it. Exercise early or late in the day, provide shade and water, give the dog a cool place to rest indoors, and never leave a dog in a parked car.
Are Boerboels legal in Texas?
Texas has no statewide breed ban, and state law says local dangerous-dog rules cannot target specific breeds. Leases, HOAs and insurance policies can still have their own rules, so check yours.
