Getting Your Boerboel Puppy Home to Ohio
For most Ohio families, pickup is a day's drive from our home base in the northeastern United States. Eastern Ohio is closest. Families farther west sometimes choose private ground transportation instead.
Raising a Boerboel in Ohio
Ohio winters are the main thing to plan for. A Boerboel has a short, dense coat. It handles cold well with a warm, dry place to sleep and sensible limits on long outdoor stays in bitter weather. Wipe paws after walks on salted roads, and keep antifreeze out of reach. Summers turn humid, so shift exercise to cooler parts of the day.
Ohio Dog Laws and the Boerboel
Ohio changed its dog law on May 22, 2012. Since then the state no longer defines a "breed of dog commonly known as a pit bull" as vicious, and any dog can be designated nuisance, dangerous or vicious based on what it does. Some Ohio cities kept or passed their own breed rules after 2012, so check your local ordinance, along with your lease and insurance policy.
Laws change, and this is general information, not legal advice. Our Boerboel ownership costs and laws FAQ covers insurance and housing questions in more detail.
What Comes With Every Cold River Puppy
Every Cold River puppy goes through Cold River HomeStart™, our early foundation program: crate and leash introduction, handling, household routines and socialization with people and animals. Puppies go home with a 16-month health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Families who want more structured training before go-home can add the optional Cold River StrongStart™ program.
Performance is how we measure the breed. Cold River's Sun Wukong and Cold River's Mr. Wednesday have each pulled 22,039 lb in UPF competition. The results and sources are on our world record page.
