Cold River Boerboels is a performance-focused Boerboel breeder based in the northeastern United States. We don't have a location in Maryland, but we work with Maryland families who want a well-raised Boerboel puppy from proven performance lines. This page covers what is specific to Maryland: how your puppy gets home, what to plan for in your climate and what state law says. Our Boerboel puppies available nationwide page explains the process for every state.

Getting Your Boerboel Puppy Home to Maryland

For most Maryland families, pickup is a same-day drive. That makes it easy to meet the adult dogs, see how our puppies are raised and take your puppy home yourself. Private ground transportation can also be discussed.

Raising a Boerboel in Maryland

Maryland summers can be hot and sticky, especially around Baltimore and Washington. The AKC lists puppies among the dogs that face increased heatstroke risk, notes that heatstroke can set in once a dog's internal temperature passes 105.8°F, and warns never to leave a dog in a parked car, "even for a short time." For a big, muscular puppy in Maryland, that means training and exercise in the early morning or evening, shade and fresh water in the yard, and a cool indoor spot to rest. Winters are mild enough that a Boerboel's short coat is rarely a problem.

Maryland Dog Laws and the Boerboel

Maryland's dog-bite statute treats every breed the same. Under Courts and Judicial Proceedings §3-1901, evidence that a dog caused an injury creates a rebuttable presumption that the owner knew or should have known the dog had dangerous propensities. The rule applies to all dogs, not to any one breed. At the local level, Prince George's County ended its pit bull ban on February 2, 2026, and moved to behavior-based dangerous-dog rules. That ban covered the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, not the Boerboel. Landlords and insurers can still set their own rules.

Laws change, and this is general information, not legal advice. Our Boerboel ownership costs and laws FAQ covers insurance and housing questions in more detail.

What Comes With Every Cold River Puppy

Every Cold River puppy goes through Cold River HomeStart™, our early foundation program: crate and leash introduction, handling, household routines and socialization with people and animals. Puppies go home with a 16-month health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Families who want more structured training before go-home can add the optional Cold River StrongStart™ program.

Performance is how we measure the breed. Cold River's Sun Wukong and Cold River's Mr. Wednesday have each pulled 22,039 lb in UPF competition. The results and sources are on our world record page.
